Laser electrode stripping inside a glove box

For research applications, it is necessary to erase the coating “black mass” from one side of the electrode to measure the other side without effects from the back side. This is commonly done with a scalpel. We developed a system with CARL, ISEA, Research Center Jülich to erase the coating of the electrodes without damaging or heating up the metal foil.

The laser electrode stripping will be performed inside the glove box to avoid chemical reactions of the electrode or electrolyte (post-mortem analysis) with oxygen or moisture.

A laser safety enclosure ensures that no harmful laser light can escape. Therefore, no laser safety goggles are necessary. The system is laser class 1. We also deliver laser safety certificates and CE declaration.

A glove box provides ventilation and HEPA filter systems filter the particles out of the argon and guide the clean argon back to the glove box. The argon does not need to be disposed of.

At an add-on, we also deliver laser sources that can cut the electrodes, de-oxidize the metal or structure the coating.
